Project ManagerResume Example & Template
A project manager resume is judged on one thing above all: evidence that you deliver projects on time, on budget, and on scope. The Applicant Tracking System most large employers use will screen you out if it cannot find your PMP, your methodology (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall), and budget figures, and the hiring manager who reads next wants proof you have led cross-functional teams to measurable business results, not a list of meetings you attended.
The example below is built the way PMO leaders and recruiters actually evaluate candidates: certifications and methodologies near the top, experience framed as quantified delivery (budget size, timeline, team size, ROI), and a skills section packed with the tools and frameworks that ATS software scans for. Use it as a model, then build your own project manager resume with the free template at the bottom.

Use this templateATS Keywords for Project Manager Resumes
Applicant Tracking Systems rank your resume by how well it matches the job description. These are the terms recruiters and ATS software scan for in project manager roles — include the ones that genuinely apply to you.
How to Write a Project Manager Resume
Feature your PMP and methodologies up top
ATS filters for PMP, PRINCE2, CSM, and methodology keywords like Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall. Put your certifications in a dedicated section near the top and weave the methodologies you actually use into your summary and skills so both the software and the hiring manager find them immediately.
Quantify the triple constraint in every bullet
Project managers are measured on scope, time, and cost. Every experience bullet should carry at least one number: budget size, percentage under/over budget, days ahead of schedule, team size, or on-time delivery rate. 'Managed projects' is invisible; 'delivered a $12M migration 8% under budget' lands.
Show portfolio scale and team size
Hiring managers gauge seniority by the size and number of projects you have run. State budget ranges, how many concurrent projects you handled, and the size of the cross-functional teams you led so recruiters can instantly place you at the right level.
Name your tools and frameworks
List the specific PM tools you have used, such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, Asana, or Smartsheet, because they are common ATS keywords. Pair them with the frameworks (SAFe, Kanban, hybrid) that match the target job description.
Common Project Manager Resume Mistakes
- Describing activities ('ran standups', 'attended meetings') instead of delivery outcomes like budget performance, schedule variance, and on-time rates.
- Leaving the PMP or other certification off the top of the resume, causing the ATS to miss the single most-searched project management keyword.
- Omitting budget size, team size, and number of projects, which makes it impossible for a recruiter to judge your seniority level.
- Listing every methodology and tool generically without showing which ones you actually applied to deliver a specific, measurable result.
Project Manager Resume FAQ
Do I need a PMP to get a project manager job?
It is not always required, but the PMP is the most-searched project management credential and many ATS filters and recruiters screen for it directly. If you have it, feature it prominently near your name and in a certifications section. If you do not, highlight a CSM, PRINCE2, or CAPM and emphasize your delivery track record.
How long should a project manager resume be?
One page is best for under 10 years of experience, and two pages is appropriate for senior PMs or program managers with a large portfolio. Lead with your most recent and largest projects, and trim older roles to a line or two. Keep every bullet tied to a measurable delivery outcome.
Should I list every project I have managed?
No, curate to your most impressive and relevant work. Highlight projects that match the target role in budget size, industry, and methodology, and group smaller efforts as a portfolio summary ('managed 14 projects worth $1M-$4M each'). Depth on a few flagship projects beats a shallow list of many.
How do I show results if my projects were confidential?
Use ranges and relative metrics instead of exact figures, such as 'a multi-million-dollar ERP program' or 'reduced cycle time by 22%.' You can describe impact without naming clients or exact budgets. Focus on percentages, timelines, and team sizes, which convey scale while protecting confidentiality.
